Circle adds USDC, EURC to Plasma as CCTP spreads

The Plasma launch gives USDC a 37th native chain, though the more consequential number is the 28 chains CCTP now connects.

Circle has put native USDC and EURC on Plasma, the stablecoin-focused Layer 1, and connected the chain to its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol; the move, reported by The Defiant, extends USDC's native reach to 37 blockchains and gives Plasma first-party access to Circle's dollar and euro tokens for payments, settlement, trading and treasury operations.

The contract addresses Circle posted on Aug. 28 show a distribution skeleton ahead of volume: Plasmascan listed 4,654,322.737666 USDC across six holders and 12,866.64 EURC across five holders, while eligible institutional traders and teams are being offered fiat on/offramps along with deposit, withdrawal and API functionality on Plasma.

CCTP moves USDC by burning the token on the source chain, obtaining a signed attestation from Circle, and minting the same amount on the destination chain, which avoids wrapped representations and the liquidity pools they require. Bridge Kit packages that process so a crosschain transfer can be integrated in roughly 10 lines of code; an Across Protocol guide from July 17 already described routing native USDC to Plasma through CCTP, and Circle's Aug. 28 rollout adds official contract listings, EURC, and developer documentation.

The Plasma launch extends a pattern that now covers 37 chains for native USDC, eight for EURC, and 28 for CCTP. Every chain added to CCTP becomes another endpoint where the same dollar can move without bridged, wrapped plumbing—the infrastructure institutional adoption requires—and the pattern is spreading just as the settlement debate consolidates. As this publication has argued, tokenized settlement is becoming a bank consortium, not a public chain, and the next test arrives with Arc's public mainnet launch in September.

Plasma describes itself as a purpose-built blockchain for fast, low-cost stablecoin payments, and it now carries Circle's tokens natively. The holder counts will grow only if institutions actually use the rails; the sharper question is whether CCTP becomes the common settlement layer across 28 chains. Circle's Sept. 16 target for Arc's public mainnet launch will be the first real test.
