Revolut’s euro stablecoin is a distribution deal
Bridge holds the license and the reserves; Revolut's 75 million customers are the real product.
Revolut has begun rolling out EURR, its first euro-backed stablecoin, to selected customers in Denmark, Poland and Portugal. The token is an e-money instrument under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets framework, issued by Bridge Building S.A., a Luxembourg-regulated electronic money institution that Revolut describes as a Stripe company, with Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd as the offeror admitting it to trading on Revolut X.
The arrangement separates the regulated core from the distribution surface, with Bridge carrying issuance and redemption while Revolut supplies the brand and an app used by more than 75 million customers. Those customers are the moat: even with EURR limited to eligible users in Denmark, Poland and Portugal, Revolut says more markets and wider availability will follow later this year, with stablecoins tied to other currencies in development.
Bridge's issuance is the size of a prototype, not a product: the issuer reported 374 EURR in circulation and €374 in reserve assets as of Aug. 25, all held as cash deposits at credit institutions. Its reserve page describes segregation at regulated credit institutions or investment in highly liquid euro-denominated instruments, and Ethereum and Polygon as the supported chains. Circle's comparable euro token, EURC, had €394.5 million in circulation a day earlier across seven networks — a gap of roughly a million to one.
Luxembourg's financial regulator lists Bridge Building as an active electronic money institution authorized June 29, 2026, and separately as a crypto-asset service provider with custody, exchange and transfer permissions, while tokenholders hold a par redemption right against Bridge, the standard e-money promise. The institutional plumbing is in place, so the real contest is for the wallet slot, and as this publication has argued in covering Visa's licensed-settlement search, the stablecoin endgame is a channel war among issuers, distributors and the rails that connect them.
The test-market numbers will show whether EURR is real, because the figure that matters is how many of Revolut's 75 million users hold an onchain euro balance, a number that at launch sits at the €374 currently in circulation.
